STRATFORD DAIRY COMPANY

To the Editor. Sir,—Your Pukongahu correspondent has been making a few mis-statements re the Stratford Dairy Company. He says that the company had practically let a, contract to erect a cheese factory in Stratford and were ignoring the creameries. Now, the facts are these: The suppliers at the main factory decided a few weeks ago to manufacture casein (as tlie proposal to manufacture cheese had been turned down by the suppliers of the whole company in July last). But in building they had an rye to the future, and they decided to erect a building that could be used for the manufacture of cheese. The only part that will be gone on with at «the present time is the making room; the curing room is left until the suppliers make up their minds to go in for cheese. As re> gards ignoring the creameries, a general meeting of suppliers lias been called for Monday, to consider the manufacture of cheese for the whole company, and I think from the opinion expressed by suppliers generally that cheese will now be decided upon. Having the present butter factory, the company will then be able in the future to go in for either butter or cheese. Your correspondent reminds me of the fox without a tail. He is evidently whipping the cat for having cast adrift from .the company, and now wants the otlier creameries to cut off their tails; but they are not so foolish. We want to pull together, and hot drift apart, as a neighboring company has done. In conclusion, I woj\ld urge every shareholder to attend the meeting on Monday and vote strongly for cheese. My reason for urging this is that from all accounts butter will only pay out, at the most, Is 7.1 per lb butter-fat, and cheese from 2s to 2s 2d. — lam, etc., A SHAREHOLDER.
