A White Paper has been issued which gives shocking details of the treatment of 'British prisoners by the natives oi German East Africa. Sworn depositions proved that civilians, including mission* aries and ladies, were compelled to carry out disgusting tasks in order to humiliate them in the eyes of the natives and | undermine British -prestige. Several missionaries were confined in vermin-infested cells for most trivial offences. Women were treated with scandalous indecency in the presence of tho native guards. . The natives were continually beaten with hippopotamus hide whips. The victims would be laid in the centre of the prison camp. Ave natives holding the limbs and head, while a sergeant applied twenty-live lashes. After a parade at Boraa, sometimes as many as a quarter of the native solt dicrs, many of whom had'been pressed into the service, were tilogged for mistakes at drill. ROLL OF HONOR.
