FURTHER REPLIES TO THE POPE. MORE GERMAN DUPLICITY. FURTHER INQUIRIES TO BE MADE. Received Sept. 25, 8.30 p.m. Rome, Sept. 25. Turkey's and Bulgaria's replies to the j Pope are similar in form and substance ;to the Austrian and German. Vatican advices state that the Central Powers' replies only partially correspond with the ranmaries sent to the Pope beforehand. Notably, the sections dealing with territorial problems were apparently deleted before publication, under military pressure. A Milan paper says the Pope will shortly inquire verbally of Berlin for replies to his proposals relating to Poland and Belgium, also to Alsace-Lorraine. REPLIES CRITICISED BY ITALIAN PRESS. Rome, Sept. 24. Newspapers are unanimous in regarding the replies of the Central Empires to the Peace Note as a grotesque patchwork of reticence and subterfuge. They describe the authors as obsequious tharlatans, who, while repeating their professions of kissing the Papal slipper, are really pulling the leg. UNITED STATES. GERMAN PERFIDY. Count Romanone*, a former Spanish Premier, in an interview, declared that the Kaiser vainly "offered Morocco and Gibraltar to Spain for a war alliance. According to papers seized during the raid on Von Nigel's office, the German plans when operating in the United States involved a propaganda for the secession -A Canada from the Empire. When the United States Minister at Bucharest took charge of German interests following the Roumanian declaration of war a number of cases s3alei J were plated in his care. On the entry of the United States into the war the cases were examined and found to contain high explosives and culture* or anthrax and glanders with, instructions to use the latter on cattle.
