BRITISH TAKL FURTHER POSITIONS J ORGANISATION OF NEW GROUND. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc, and Router. Received Sept. 24, 9.30 p.m. London, Sept. 24. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We completely repulsed storm troops north-east of Langemarek. The English ride regiments then attacked and captured, after sharp fighting, a further portion of the defence in this neighborhood, a number of prisoners being taken. The organisation of the newly-captured positions on the rest of the battle front is proceeding. We repulsed an attack eastward of Villeret. There have been 32-13 prisoners, including 80 officers, taken on the Ypres battle front since the commencement of the attack on the 20th. Our aeroplanes yesterday dropped bombs on billets, hutmeiu.;, and aerodromes, also three cons at night time on the Roulew-Meiiin-Wcrvicci railway stations. The enemy dropped a few bombs at midday, but littlfc damage was done. We brought down nine enemy aircraft. Two of ours are missing.

The Daily Mail states that General Falkenhayn, German chief of staff, 'is at Aleppo. He plans at re-taking Bagdad and containing the British army in Palestine. ■ Transport is the chief problem. The Turkish army is still formidable. Russian aid from 'Persia is unreliable.

The German Note states that Germany exceedingly regrets the Luxburg affair and absolutely disapproves of his views, which were his own personal ideas and will have no effect whatever on the decisions and promises of the German Government. The raihvaymen have decided oh a general strike commeneinsr on "Monday. A fatal conflict occurred between railwaymen and troops. A general strike is imminent.
NOTE LEAVES A DOUBT. BUT POSTPONES DECLARATION OF WAR. Router Service. Received Sept. 24, 7.45 p.m. Buenos Ayres, Sept 23. The German Note leaves a doubt as to whether Germany intends to modify her submarine campaign, but it has had the effect of postponing the Argentine's declaration of war. THE ULTIMATUM POPULAR. Buenos Ayres, Sept. 23. After tho Government sent the ultimatum to Germany crowds in the streets cheered tho ultimatum. All German business houses took the precaution to barricade. AUSTROGERMANY.; GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT. Received Sept. 24, 7.45 p.m. London, Sept. 23. Wireless German ofllciul: An English monitor bombarded Ostend and struck tho cathedral, killing seven and wounding twenty-four. The Belgian coastal batteries drovo the monitor off. We repulsed strong attacks south-east of St. Julien, and drove out the English, who penetrated trenches south-east of Arras, MOTHER COUNTRY. COURT PAINTER INTERNED. London, Sept. 23. The Internment of Lasgio de Lornbo3, the Court iPainter, who lias resided for many years in England, has caused a sensation in society.
