WAITARA.

(From Our Own Correspondent). Waitara, Sept. 24. Business generally on behalf of the local babies was not quite uu to the usual ou Saturday, due, probably, to the fact that two nights' dancing on Thursday and Friday kept many tired ' folk at home. However, both committees were at their posts as usual, and fired salvos to the best of their ability. It is unfortunate that so few of the business people are assisting the small committee of men engaged in the good work. It is impossible for Buch a few to keep going continuously, and it is up t" the rest to come along and "do their bit. On Thursday afternoon next a football match is sot down for the Camp Reserve, between teams selected from the business players and freezers. As there are a good number of good exponents on both sides, an interesting inateh should result. It is all for the baby fund. The New Plymouth Male Choir concert for Thursday night is being looked forward to with very keen intareat. To ensure good seats it will be necessary to book up early. With Thursday's function .it Lepperton, in aid of the west country baby, and a big gala day at Urenui, on October 11 for the north country one, something very tangible should result. Both committees are working hard. The fine weather seems like breaking to-day, and a good downpour of rain would be appreciated. Grass is not so abundant as might be expected, and eowa are not giving their usual yield. Fae-,! Tories are getting into full awuig now. I The .North Taranaki Co.'s checs.i buildings and plant are well on the way to .completion, and they hope to be able to start cheesemaking at the beginning ot the month. Waitara and Tikirangi are pinning their faith to butter and cisein. The mud roads round the district have improved considerably by the <-p:rnt spell of dry weather, and settlers ace able to get about just now with some Jittle degree of convenience and comfort. The usual monthly meeting of the North Taranaki Patriotic League's executive, takes place this evening. The latest bulletin of the baby voting contest will be screened at the Theatre Royal to-morrow evening.
