As the parties are seeking a Dominion award, evidence was only called regarding the "team" syßtem, which the union objects to. Samuel Cooper was awarded £225 compensation for an accident received while in the employ of J. M. Hsy.wood and Co., as carter. A SALVAGE CLAIM. Wellington, Sept. sl. Salvage claims for £3OOO by the UnioA Company and £2500 by Zohrab against the owners of the large barque recently stranded at Wellington Heads, were further investigated to-day. Mr. Kennedy, manager of the Union Company, in the course of his evidence, said that for the tug Terawhiti's assistance to the Kaipara the company received £9500 and £IOO daily for the time the tug was away from Wellington. For salvage work for the Indrabarab 12,480 was paid, including £7105 for the Tcrawhiti, the balance for the hire of gear and the services of the salvage crew; for the Star of Canada the amount paid to the company was £7750, including £5025 hire of the Terawhiti. Mr. Myers, in opening the case for the defence in the salvage case, said that what happened on the night of the stranding had been exaggerated by the claimants and the chief witnesses of the plaintiffs, nearly all of whom were interested personally. Mr. Myers added that Captain Dawson, harbormaster at Wellington, would speak of questions of fact in direct opposition to the evidence of Captain Walton.
