Strong northerly winds have predominated, gales being reported in many places in and southwards of Cook Strait, and heavy rain ha 3 fallen on the West Coast and southernmost districts of the S#uth Island. Present indications are for b falling barometer everywhere, with high, squally northerly and westerly winds. Expect unsettled and cloudy weather, with rain falling generally.
