Mr. W. F. Bennetts, postmaster, or Kaitangata, lias received notice of his transfer on promotion to Manaia. Mrs. S. Oliver, of Sentry Hill, has received advice that her son, Rifleman J. B. Oliver, is improving.

Police Sergeant Trehey arrived in New Plymouth from Palmerston North by the mail train last night to succeed .Senior .Sergeant Bowden, who retires on superannuation. Sergeant Trehey enters upon his duties here this morning..

The only Taranaki name that appears in the casualty list issued in Wellington on Tuesday is that of Edmund ftibson, son of Mr. C. E. Gibson, of Hawera, who is reported to have been wounded. A very old colonist and aoldier in the person of David Fahey died at Hawera on Wednesday at the great age of 84 years. lie was born in Limerick, Ireland in 1852, having seen considerable active service with his regi ment, the (15th, and after he settled "in New Zealand ,was with the Armed Constabulary through a number of the .Maori war engagements. For his services he was in receipt of both English and New Zealand pensions.

An old resident of Hawera passed away in the person of Mrs. Wm. Morrissey, at the age of 71 years (says the Star). Deceased was born in Waterford. Ireland, and came out to Melbourne with her husband- in the very earl)- days of colonisation. Later on the family came over to the west coast of the' South Island, and about 35 years ago came to reside in Hawera, where Mr. Morissey carried on the blacksmith business which the two sons now control. Deceased leaves n large grown-up family, namely; Messrs John and Edward Morrissey, "of Hawera; William, of Sydney; Robert, of Palmerston North; and Francis, now on active service; also Mrs. Garrett Wilson of Stratford, and Misses Morrissey, of Hawera.
