ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Sept. 10. The concert at the Town Hall on Friday, which is being organised by the Overseas Club for the Blind Hostel Fund, should have the utmost support, both on account of the merits of the programme and the worthiness of the cause. The members of the Chamber of Commerce held a meeting on Monday evening. The attendance was good, and all thoroughly relished the address on "Business in Eltham," delivered by the president, Mr. J. L. Weir. The chief points touched upon were as to how trado stood in town; the relations betwien customer and retailer; the why and wherefore that certain trade was being partially diverted to neighboring towns. Messrs L. Hill and E. Parrott were very optimistic, the latter particularly so, and both opined that things were not so bad After all, when the war was considered. The member for Egmont favored the meeting with his views, whilst Mr. Buckeridge expressed his pleasure at the activity shown by the Chamber in the welfare of the town and district. The financial results achieved as the result of the football games between Eltham and Hawera were not flattering, the proceeds amounting to only 9s at Hawera. XGAERE DAIRY FACTORY. Mr. \V. E. Morison presided over a fair attendance of shareholders at Ngaerc on Tuesday. The chairman, in moving the adoption of the report; and balance-sheet, congratulated suppliers on the very successful season, and touched on the outlook. The report (which has already appeared in the Daily News) was adopted. Mr. X. Fryday brought up the necessity of farmers keeping their lands up to the highest state of productivity poslible. He mentioned there was a large Jime field at Toko that was about to be opened, and he thought it would be a good thing for N'gaere to support the company being formed there. After a little discussion a motion was carried instructing Mr. Fryday to elicit information' on the matter and then call a special meeting of settlers and place details before them. Mr. C. Harrison drew attention to the iact that picture posters were being displayed on the company's property, and it was resolved that no picture posters ■be allowed on the company's premises. Messrs J. \V. Boon (president) and T. Ranford, on behalf of the Stratford A. and P. Association, waited on the meeting and solicited a donation towards the prize fund. Mr. Boon received a sympathetic hearing, and at the close of his address, after a short discussion, the sum of £ls was voted to the association.
The manager of the Taranaki Meat Company waited on the meeting and placed before the suppliers the advantages to be derived by taking up shares and supplying pigs to the company, whose headquarters were at Wellington and who had a branch at Eltham. The opinion of suppliers generally was against becoming shareholders in the company, and no action wa9 taken.
Messrs T. Coleman. T. Blair (retiring directors), and Gatenby were elected directors, the latter suceeding Mr. Orr •(resigned). *• The chairman was voted an honorarium of £75, and directors granted 10s per day for each meeting. Mr. Morison 'was re-elected chairman.
Mr. Thomas was reappointed auditor.
