THE MARRIED MEN.

QUESTIONS IN USE HOUSE. T ; ; , MEN'S CLAIMS FOE CONSIDERATION It was very evident on Friday iwheri question time arrived in the House that members <lo attach a great deal of importance to the claims of the Second Division for consideration at the hands of the Government (says the Dominion). Notice was given of the following questions:—

Mr. Bollard (Raglan) to ask the Minister of Defence: Whether, in view of his statement that a pre-ballot medical examination could not be arranged for, fie will bring down an amendment to the Military Service Act providing that no reservist shall be called upon to enter camp before the expiry of three months from the date of medical examination? [Note. —It is absolutely essential thai a reservist should have not less than three months' notice from the day when ho definitely knows that he is fit for service, In order that he may arrange his affairs. Such a provision will save & lot of unnecessary commercial and industrial disorganisation and domestic suffering. A man can only know definitely that he has to serve after the medical examination. This provision will also the necessity of appeals for extension of lime which otherwiso are bound to become a serious hindrance to the mobilisation of the drafts.] Mr. Wright (Wellington Suburbs) to 4sk the Minister of Defence: Whether the Government has taken any steps, find, if not, whether steps will be taken 10 give effect to the request of the Sec.ond Division League "that the State should pay for medical and dental services for dependants of soldiers (whilst on active service, and that the Government be urged that arrangements should be made immediately with the 'British Medical Association and New Zealand Trained Nurses' Association to give effect to this resolution"? \Note. —This resolution was the outcome of a conference between a sub-committee of the. Second Division League Conference and representatives of the British Medical Association.] Mr. Guthrie (Oroua) to ask the Government: Whether it is the intention of •give effect to the request of the Second Division League "That the Government be urged to devise some means, consistent with the rights of the mortgagee, whereby the iwidow of a deceased soldier, being the owner of a mortgaged home, shall not be compelled under the terms of the mortgage to sell the home?" Mr. Hudson (Motueka) to ask the Minister of Defence: Whether effect will be given to the request of the Second Division League, "That allocated pay and allowances shall not be affected by misconduct of soldier?" [Note. —It is manifestly unjust that women and children should be deprived of their source of income owing to some military offence committed by the soldier upva whom they are dependent.] Mr. Scott (Otago Central) to ask the Government: Whether they iwill provide, in bringing forward the amended scale of pensions and allowances, "That Agelimits of benefits to children be males seventeen, unmarried females twenty years," as requested by the recent conference of Seccid Division reservists?

Mr. Craigie (Timaru) to ask the Minister of Justice: Whether the Government will give effect to +>>» request of the Second Division League by bringing down a measure providing that no person of military age be permitted to enter New Zealand to take up positions in preference to Second Division reservisits ? >

Mr. Forbes (Hurunui) to ask the Minister of Defence: Whether the Government iwill accede to the Tequest of the Second Division League, "That an official sign be supplied to all men requiring it who are called on active service, fot the purpose of displaying on their business premises, to show they have been called up"? Mr. Talbot (Temuka) to ask the Minister of Defence: Whether he will give | effect to the request of the Second Division League "That in each town whore :i Military .Service Board sits the State shall provide a legal representative to conduct the cases of appellants when required before the Military Service *-oard free of cost to such appellants"? [".Note. —The State provides a representative for the military side, and it is only right that reservists should have a similar provision should they require It on appeal.]
