A PLEA FOR EARLY CLOSING. By Telegntph.—Press Association. Invereargill, Last Night. The Invercargill 'Reform Council, representing the largest electorate in the Dominion under mo-lieense, resolved that because of the experience of partial prohibition during the past twelve months, it earnestly urges (Parliament to vot(i for six o'clock closing. Thet council recognises t'his is only a, partial remedy for the crying evils of the drink traffic, but the only remedy at present available, and it is entitled to tile support of all statesmen -who have the true interests of the Dominion at 'heart.

A DUNEDIN PROTEST.

iDunedin, Last Night. !A meeting organised by business men was held when a motion was carried protesting emphatically agaiilkt the failure of tlio Government to provide as a war measure for the closing of hotel bars at 6 p.m., and calling upon Parliament to give effect, to the widely expressed will of the great majority of the people in this respect. There was a fairly good attendance. AN AUCKLAND PROTEST. Auckland, Last Night. A crowded meeting in tiie Town Hall of over 3000 carried a resolution expressing a strong protest against the Government's lattempt to thwart the will of the people by proposing to close hotels at eight o'clock, when the 'known and expressed will of the electors is that bars should be closed at six o'clock duf'jng and until six months after the war; also a motion emphatically urging the Government, in the event of its refusal to (provide for six O'clock closing, tij forthwith introduce legislation to enable the usual triennial poll of the people, due this year, upon the prohibition issue to be taken, in terms of the recommendation of the Efficiency Board. A motion on behalf of Labor'that the election should 'be held at the end of the present year was .disallowed on the voices.
