WESTERN ATTACK.

A SUCCESSFUL RAID. ENEMY ATTACK REPULSED. London, Sept. 10. Sir Douglas Hriig reports:—We again raided Oherisv (south-east of Arras) and penetrated far into the western outskirts. We drove off raiders northward of Lens and repulsed a counter-attaSk northward of Inverness Copse, the effort being made to retake the strong point we captured yesterday.

Sir Douglas Haig reports: The enemy raided in the neighborhood of the Ypre«Corainos canal, eastward of Messines. A few of ours are missing. The enemy heavily bombarded northward of Langemarck, and the infantry attempted to advance, but our counter-barrage prevented the attack developing. There has been considerable artiilerying in the Ypres sector. Our aeroplanes co-operat-ed with tho artillery, and despite the wind favoring the enemy they dropped three tons of bombs on two aerodromes east of Courtrai, and on an aerodrome and ammunition dump north-east of Cambrai, also on billets and hutments. We brought down eight. Four of ours' are missing.

A French communique states: There has been considerable artillerying in the region of Brayo and Cerny. Fresh German attacks made on the right bank of the Meuse, north of Caurieres Wood, were repulsed. On the left bank there has been lively artillerying in the neighborhood of Mort Homme. CIVILIANS EVACUATE ROULERS AND OSTEND. Received Sept. 17, 7.15 p.m. Amsterdam, Sept. 17. The Handclsblad states that the Civilians have evacuated Soulers and are now evacuating Ostend, while 2000 are left at Courtrai. A GERMAN REPORT. London, Sept. 10. A wireless German official report says: Northward of the Menin-Ypres road the English forced our foremost trenches over a company's width. The English on a 1000-metres front at Cherisy used flame throwers and armoured cars. We threw them out of the trenches after hand-to-hand fighting. A second attempt also broke down.
