DISTRICT NEWS.
OAONUI. (From Our Own Correspondent.) There was a crowded attendance of residents of Oaonui and surrounding districts at a social which was held in the Oaonui hall ion Thursday evening to farewell Privates P.-A. Pe'ntelow and S. Shirley, who are home on final leave, and to welcome home Lieut. D. A. Lusk. who hjjis returned invalided. Lieut. Lusk has had a distinguished career, having left with the Main Body as a private. He took part in the Gallipoli landing and was wou|ded at El Arish, just as he was about tQ be promoted to a captaincy. The social proved a most enjoyable one, excellent music 'being provided by the ladies of tho district, who were also responsible for the supper which made a pleasant interlude. Mr. R. Mci Fie made a capable M.C., whilst songs were contributed by Messrs. Eric Andrews and T. Barr. During an interval Mr. R. P. Malcolm, in a brief speech, on behalf of the residents of the district, presented the two departing privates with a wristlet watch each, whilst Lieut. Lusk was the recipient of a case of pipes and a cigarette holder. Each of the recipients suitably responded.
