WESTERN ATTACK.
FRENCH SUCCESS. AGAINST GERMAN' ATTACK. London, Sept. 14. A French communique says:—After a violent bombardment the Germans at ilmvn attacked the Casemates Plateau. The enemy was driven back with heavy lossci after hand-to-hand fighting, FURTHER PROGRESS. USEFUL AVIATION WORK. GERMANS PENETRATE FRENCH POSITION.

There has 'been considerable reciprocal artilierying eastward of VTpres. Despite the weather our aerodropped eighty bombs on the enemy s billets eastward of Lens, and machine-gunned troops in the open and in the trendies. Three of our machines are missing. A French communique states: On the right bank of the Meuse, after a violent bombardment, the. Germans attacked the position we recently captured north of Caurieres Wood, penetrating our advanced line on a front of 500 metres. XKe fighting" continues.

Sir Douglas Kaig reports: We improved our position eastward of Westhoek. An enemy attack failed on the ground grained north-eastward of St. Jnlicn. Hostile artillery is active northward of Langemarck. A French communique states: We drove the enemy out of the greater portion of Die trench elements north of Caurieres Wood that he penetrated ytsterday. SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS. PORTUGUESE REPULSE RAIDERS. STATIONS AND ENCAMPMENTS BOMBED. FRENCII RAID TRENCHES. f Received Sept. 10, 11.45 p.m. London, Sept. 16. Sir Douglas Haig reports: The Londoners carried out a successful operation northward of Inverness copse and Raptured an enemy strong point at little I cost. The Durhams successfully raided j westward of Clierisy. Our casualties were slight. The Portuguese repulsed raiders in the neighborhood of Neuve phapelle. The enemy left a number of (dead and wounded. We repulsed, without loss, raiders southward of Armeniieres. Despite the cloudy weather and Jthe wind favoring the enemy, our airfae n dropped bombs on the railway station northward of Charleroi, also on Railway stations, billets and encampments nearer the lines. We brought down nine machines. Four of ours are pissing. A French communique reports violent yirtillerying at Laffaux mill and on the right of ithe Meuse. The French successfully raided German trenches at f Mont Haut, destroying observation pogts pad dugouts. Four German aeroplanes were destroyed in aerial combats.
A GERMAN REPORT. Received Sept. M, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 15. A wireless German official report states: Our counter-attacks frustrated English attempts at St. Julien. We fjected the 'French who penetrated our positions on the Sommery-Souain road. We stormed the height eastward of the Chaulme Wood. NAVAL BOMBING EXPEDITION. London, Sept. 11. The Admiralty reports:—Naval aircraft on Wednesday night bombed the Ghistelles and Thourout aerodromes. All our machines returned. GERMAN OFFICIAL REPORT.
London, Sept. 14. A wireless German official message says:—We drove the enemy out of a wood sectiou northward of Langemarck and took numerous English prisoners. We penetrated the French lines westward of Ouignicourt, taking prisoners.
