THE SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN.
A SUBMARINE SUNK. Bt 'BRITISH VESSEL. ' London, Sept. 14. A naval auxiliary was struck by a torpedo in the engine-room and severs! .compartments were flooded. A periscope and conning tower appeared and we fired, hitting the periscope. Many other hits were observed and several men came out I of the hatch aliaft the conning tower. I The submarine wallowed along with lier stem almost submerged and oil squirting' from her sides. The crew waved that they surrendered and we ceated fire, whereupon the submarine started off at a fair speed. We fired again and the enemy fell on her side and slowly disappeared end up. Two survivors were picked up. We readied harbor.
20 SUBMARINES ACCOUNTED FOR IN AUGUST. Home, Sept. 14. Swiss advices to the Agenzia Liberas state that 20 German submarines were sunk or captured in August.
