Mr. R. C. D. Lightbourne, of Eltham, has accepted a position on the staff of the Feilding High School. Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P. for Taumarunui, was a passenger from Wellington hy the inail train.on Saturday night. The Rev'. A. 0. Seivewright left for Wellington on Friday to fulfil a preaching engagement at Vivian Street Church for two Sundays.
Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.P., has received a cablegram stating that his son, Lieut. A. Jennings, of the Northumberland Fusiliers, is in the Western General Hospital, and is "progressing splendidly." At Lowgarth, on Thursday evening, Privates Septus and Harrison were entertained by the settlers and presented with wristlet watches and combination pocket knives. Mr. M. Mulloy, of Korito, ha 9 received advice that his son, Corporal W. Mulloy, of the Ninth Reinforcements, who was severely wounded in the early part of the Somme lighting, is returning home this month. The marriage of Franeis McCrone second son of Mr. William McCrone! St. liilda, Dunedin, to Miss Gladvs Sim second daughter of Mr J. B. Sim, Eltham, I took place at the Ivelburne Church, Wellington, on the sth instant. The following names of Taranaki men appeared in the war hospital progress report issued 011 Saturday:' Progressing favorably—F. 11. Boardman (Taranaki). Not severe cases—E. H. Crocker (Now Plymouth), S. G. Higgs (New Plymouth). Mr. F. W. Court, of Puniwhakau, has received a cable stating that his son,' (Private G. F. Court, who was wounded and gassed 011 July 26, ia improving and has been transferred from the Brockenhurst Hospital to the Hornchurch Convalescent Home.
' A farewell social was tendered to Fireman (now.Rifleman) H. J. Calgher at the Fitzroy Fire Brigade station. Superintendent F. C. Bellringer presided, and during the evening presented Rifleman Calgher with a wristlet watch on behalf of members of the brigade and Captain Griffiths with a further two years' service bar. The Fitzrov Brigade is only about 16 strong, yet Rifleman Calgher is the seventh inembei who has been accepted for active service, while of the members at one time 011 the brigade's roll there must be another dozen or so who have enlisted.
I The marriage took place in All Saints' Church, Palmerston North on Wednesday, of Miss McKnight, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. M. McKnHit of Palmerston North, to Mr. GeoVe Henry Holford, eldest son of Captain George Holford, of Christchuroh. Tlio Rev, H. G. Blackburne performed tho ceremony. Miss Ida Holford and Miss Doris Powell were bridesmaids, and Lieutenant Gordon Macdonald and Mr. Leslie Cookson best man and groomsman respectively.
