Knowles resided for many years in the ■Rahotu district, and took a very active part in patriotic affairs.
WEDDING. THOMSON —LOVERIDGE. At Whiteley Church, on the 11th inst., a very pretty wedding took place, the contracting parties being Miss Olive Loveridge and Mr. William Thomson, both of Omata. The officiating clergyman was the Rev. Sinclair. The bride was attired in a handsome crepe de chene gown, trimmed with ninon frilling anil white pearl buttons, and wore the customary wreath and veil. She carried a lovely bouquet of freesias with maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid (Miss Gray) was dressed in a costume of grey taffeta, with hat to match. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Oscar Johns as hest man. Mr. Edgar Loveridge gave hia si-tcr awav.
Tho bridal nartv loft the church to the accompaniment of the wedding march on the organ. After the ceremony a largo, number of guests were entertained by .Mrs. (jilbert. aunt of the bride, at her new residence on the esplanade. She received the guests in ti very handsome gown of navy crepe lie ehene. The tables were beautifully decorated with freesias, and after the good things had been partaken of. some toasts were duly honored and many were the good wishes bestowed' 011 the newly wedded pair. The presents were numerous and handsome, showing the esteem in which the bride and bridegroom are held. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a gold necklet with pendant, and to the bridesmaid a silver manicure set. The bride's travelling icostume was dark navy, with black and navy hat lined with pink, and ornamented" with pink roses. It may be mentioned that among tMk presents was one from the members Si the Methodi-t Church, Omata, where the bride acted as organist for about ten years, it took the l'orm of a honey jar, also a jam dish, each in a silver stand, and was presented by Mr. C. E liellringer after the service last Sunday |afternoon. The bride's mother wore a black cos'inine trimmed with braid and buttons, j lind peacock blue hat with white ostrich I plume; and the bridegroom's mother a navy costume with black hat.
