REBELLION DOOMED TO FAILURE. LCKHOMftKY TIIE INSTIGATOR. NATIONAL GOVERNMENT PROBABLE. Received Sept. 14, 7.5 p.m. •PeSrograd, Sept. 13. General Kornilofi's terms proposed the appointment of three dictators. whereof ha sliould'be one. Ho demanded the s,uppressioe of all democratic councils, committees and similar organisations. KcrnilofPs readiness to surrender has been anticipated since W'tth e.-day, is he led only a small number ol troops, and failed to rally others to hi:- standard. General Alcxieff, as ehief of staff, telegraphed to Korniloli', Imping to convince him that his attempt was doomed to failure,, and to induce him to lay down armu.
It is generally believed that Kornilc'T is not the real head of the rebellion, but T.ukhorasky is the real instigator. Lukhomsky is a reactionary, and a partisan of (he old court clique. It is difficult to say how Korniloff's attempt has affected the army's morale. Petrograd is outwardly calm. Meetings and processions are prohibited, and the movements of residents are strictly cur tailed. M. Kcrcr?ky will probably endeavor to font :i coalition Government, all sections being given representation. Received Sept. 14. 5).30 .p.m. London, Sept. 14. The United Press correspondent at Petrograd says the Soldiers' Committees will henceforth have no say in military affa'Vs. as the commanders at the. front are to bo supreme.
THE RUSSIANS ADVANCING. SUCCESSES CLAIMED. A. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Ttcuter. Received Sept. 14, 7.30 p.m. London. Sept. 13. Wednesday's Russian official report states: On the northern front our vanguards, after a stubborn battle, obtained possession of Massif ! southward of' Lake Plaude, and a. foothold in tlie Pchkorsten -Silamouva line. Thursday's communique reads: Our vanguards are advancing in the direction of Riga. We continue to hold the Xist-zupcpaus-Kebayer line. Intense artillery fire k in progress southward of Vidza. We took possession of a height southward of RadaiUz. We repulsed counterattacks.
RUSSIANS ON THE OFFENSIVE THE ADVANCE CONTINUES. Received Sept. 14, 8.10 p.m. ' London, Sept. 13. A wireless Russian official report states: In the direction of Riga we advanced. Otir detachments, fighting their way forward, occupied Kalis vil'age in the coast, region and captured Peine, southward of the Pat off road, taking prisoners and booty, ana then advanced on Rentzon and southward.
MEETINGS CONDEMN KORfJILOFF. PRINCi; LVOFF'S MYSTERIOUS ! POSITION. PARTICULARS OP THE FINAL RUPTURE. Received Sept. 15, 1.35 p.m. Petrograd, Sept. M. . Meetings held at many .factories generally condemned General Korr.ilofi'. Many resolutions were passed in favor of the (Soviet taking over the Government. The Novoe Vremya and another paper which had a tendency to support General KornilofF have been closed by the Government's order. , Eighty of Prince Lvoff's associates suspected of favoring General 'Komilojf, have been arrested. 'Prince I.voff's 'position during the crisis lu\s been mysterious. After the interview which ended in Kerensky dismissing General KornilolY, the latter isLsued. a proclamation denying Kerensky's version of the interview, declaring Uiat he had never sent Prince Lvoff to the Premier, but that. M. Kerensky ■. -d sent Prince Lvoll' to him. This led to a final I rupture. KornilorT moved his troops towards Petrograd, and was urged in his enterprise by General Lukhomskv, his chief of staff.
ESCAPE OF PRISONERS. ANOTHER SOURCE OF TROUBLE. Received Sen!. 15, 2 a.m. Potrograd, Sept. 14. Since the beginning ut the revolution thousands of 'i'on:u: n and Austrian prisoners have escaped from the internment camps. Sometimes five hundred escaped together. A body of fifteen to twenty thousand is now wandering about the country keeking to cross the frontier, and a number 'have become members of the Councils of Workmen's and Soldiers' Delegates, while a few have even been elected to the executives. Many uttempts at sabotage occurred. At the Donetz coal lields escaped prisoners are setting lire to the pitheads. NEW APPOINTMENTS. Reuter Service. Received Sept. 15. 1.55 a.m. l'etrograd, Sept. 14. General Riissk" has been appointed to the command of rhc northern, and Genera) KragomirofT to the south-western front. SORNILOPF'S SMALL FORCE. Received Sept. 15, 1.40 a.m. ■London, Sept. 14. The Daily Express' Stockholm correspondent reports that Korniloff's army consists of two cavalry divisions, an infantry division and six Cossacks rejjimeuta, besides many oddments.
