As the up New Plymouth mail train was about to leave Aramoho on Tuesday afternoon, a man was observed to go into an outhouse on the station. He was carrying a dress basket. A policeman saw him and followed with the result that an arrest was made. Next morning (says the Herald) a man named William George Marslen, alias Humphrey appeared before Mr. J. G. T. Hewitt, S.M., charged with the theft of a dress basket and contents valued at £lO, the property of Grace Lash. Accused pleaded guilty and as he had nine previous convictions against him he was sentenced to six months' imprisonment in Wellington gaol. The N.Z. Griffiths to gain further information re the purchase of the property and to report at a meeting to be held at the Soldiers' Club on Tuesday afternoon, at 4.30 p.m. No fewer than 137 C2 men have been called up in the Taranaki group for re-examination by the special medical board, which vill sit in Hawera on September 27 and 2S and at New Plymouth on the 29tii. The men comprise reservists drawn in the first tb the sixth ballots, inclusive. • Reservist* should not confuse this special hoard, with the ordinary medical board, which Will deal with the tenth ballot men on the same dates.
