A STEAMER LOST.
THE PATE OP THE WAIBUNit Tho fato of the long-overdue steamer Wairuna was referred to in Parliament on Tuesday. Mr. Poole asked the Minister of jU'.vriue whether any steps were being taken to locate Iho Wairuna or to discover whether any survivors might be living on s ome of the Pacific Islands. The Minister said the. Wairuna sailed for Ban Francisco ou May HO, and had never been heard of since. She was probably lost, whether as a result of t.ur conditions or by accident he could not say. An inquiry would bo commenced in Auckland during the next few days, ivi order to c\ny out law, and to ascertain the condition of tho ship when sho left Mew Zealand. The Marine Depertinent would make investigations as to the probable route of the Wairuna, with the object of having any islands in the vicinity searched. Mr. Poole: Eas nothing been done already? The Minister: Nothing has been dona up +ill the present.
