A new food economy campaign is being inaugurated. Lord Khonrida states that the absolute need of economy in the use of all foodstuffs can.iot be too strongly urged. BRUTAL CRUELTY. TO BRITISHERS IN GERMANY. _____ Received Sept. 13, 11 p.m. London, .'Sept. 13. Repatriated Australians 'tell many stories of brutal cruelty and some coldblooded murders. A petty officer belong, ing to the navy was kicked to death in a hospital after being wounded in battle. There were twelve Britishers in hospital sick and wounded. They told the authorities they were unable to work. A German non-com. thereupon ordered his men to beat the British wounded with their rifles. The petty officer attempted to strike the non-com., but he was murdered for his effort. The authorities held an inquiry, but the affair was smoothed over.
