A case was commenced in the Suprent# Court to-day in which John Cross, a farmer, claimed the sum of £2OOO damages from Alexander Co'quhoim, a farmer and a member of the Expeditionary Force, for alleged seduction of plaintiff's daughter. Sir John Findlay, K.C., is appear* ing for the plaintiff, and Mr. T. M. Wil? ford for the defendant. The evidence for the plaintiff went to show that the yowig woman attended dances with defendant, and was frequently iii his company. She l«ft for Sydney after receiving the sum of £75 from the defendant, for which she gav» a receipt, in which slje acknowledged that defendant was not responsible for her condition. When in Sydney she b6* oame very ill, and she ivrote to defendant, but received no reply. Sh# went under an assumed name, but her parents Subsequently discovered lisr, and she wft» brought back to New Zealand. The principal witness was subjected to a lengthy 4nd searching .cross-examination by Mi. Wilford. The case waa not concluded when tlw Court rose. Maaterton, ILaet Night. John Cross, a farmer, was awarded £IOOO damages in the Supreme Court today, in a case brought against Alexander Colquhoun, farmer, for tha seduction of plaintiff's daughter. A nonsuit point y-\ reserved.
