KERENSKY'S STAFF.
ARREST OP HEADQUARTERS STAFF. HOPE OF AVOIDING INTERXECTNE STRIFE. Received Sept. 12, 11.35 p.m. London, Sept. 12. A wireless message states that M. Kerensky has issued the following statement,: Superior officers everywhere are acting in agreement with the. Government and the committees at the front. General Denskin, together with the headquarters stall, lias been arrested, also General Erdelli, who had broken the army's obedience. Several oi' General Erdelli's staff have been arretted. Only small detachments, which General Knrnilolf, through deception, is leading to Petrograd, remain deluded regarding the position of their advance. The arrested individual units sent delegations to Petrograd requesting the arrest of the commanders who betrayed the GoVernment. Energetic measures are being taken to defend Petrograd. and I hope bloodshed and civil war will be avoided. I am receiving evidence of the loyalty of the troops and of the people in all the provinces. The public, organisations have announced their determination to support the. Government. It is essential to the safety of the Fatherland that complete unity of action shall be pieserved.
ATTEMPTED COUP D'ETAT,
KERENSKY i-ORMS A DIRECTORY. Received Sept. 12, 10.56 p.m. London, Sept. 12. The Daily Telegraph's Petrograd correspondent report's that on Monday General Korniloff attempted a couo d'etat by asking the Government to resign. He offered if. Kerenskv the post of Minister lof Justice, but Kerensky indignantly rejected the proposal, which Prince Lvoff voiced.
A telephone conversation between Kerensky and Korniloff led to 110 more satisfactory result. Kerensky thereupon formed a Directory and appointed General Alexieff commander-in-chief. M. Kerensky states he is assured of support from Moscow, and has iorce enougli to quell all possible disorders 1 at thu «a,nitaL

The Directory has arrested a number of leaders of the anti-Socialist party, KORNILOFF GATHERING SUPPORT. MOSCOW'S LOYALTY. AN APPEAL TO OTHER TOWNS. Reuter Service. Received Sept. 13, 1.45 a.m. Petrograd, Sept. 12. Newspapers state that General Ivlembovsky will be the new generalissimo. Generals Denigne a.utl Valonyers, respectively commanding the south and western fronts, joined General Korniloff. A meeting of garrison, workers, professional classes and raihvaymen at Moscow voted loyalty to the Provisional Government. The municipalities, in a proclamation, exhort the ancient capital to rise as one man and defend the revolution. They appeal to all towns in Russia to rally to the Government.
TO AVERT CIVIL WAR. ALEXIEFF OFFERS HIS SERVICES. Renter Service. Received Sept. 13, 1 a.m. (Petrograd, Sepc. 12. The Retch says thai, General TitlinkolT and General Alexieff visited M. Kerensky and offrrnl their services in order to avert civil war. Kerenfky declined to negotiate with a lawbreaker, but would not object to a new Cabinet negotiating with General Kornilolf. At a private conference between Iverensky and ex-Ministers it was agreed that General Alexieff should be chief of such Cabinet, but Kerensky eventually refused to entrust the power to General Alezieli'. and opened negotiations with the Soldiers' and Workmen's Committee. It is believed there will be a stronger Socialist representation in the new Cabinet, wherein Tereschanki and Nekrasof! are the sole non-Socialists retaining their posts.
