A Sydney cable states that Sir Walter Davidson, Governor of Newfoundland, has been appointed Governor of New South Wales.
The name of Miss Xellie Humphrey, of Inglowood, was added to the list of probationers on the nursing staff of the New Plymouth Hospital at yesterday's meeting of the Hospital 'Board.
A cable mcssge has been received by Mrs. E. A. O'Donnell, Brown Street, New Plymouth, stating that her son, Private J. J. O'Donnell, who was previously reported wounded, is improving. Mr, W, Stanley, Hillsborough, has received word that his third and young-, est son, Private G. T. W. Stanley, has been removed from the dangerously ill list, as from September 1. This is the third of the family at the front.
Word has been received that Lieutenant Bersraud, who was wounded on August 20, is back again in the firing line on the West front.
Mr. F. J. Stephens, who goes into camp witli the 34th Reinforcements, was on Monday 'presented with a wristlet watch on behalf of the New Plymouth railway staff.
