Mr; Slassey made a statement . thi* afternoon regarding negotiates for the purchase of butter and cheese on behalt of the Imperial authorities. He said, with regard to butter, that the Government was using all possible expedition with the object of bringing the negotiations to a successful conclusion, bilt th» imperial authorities were b1ow : to tijjovo. If he did not receive a reply from London within a day or two ha would cable again and remind the Imperial authorities that the dairying season was opening here. He quite understood that factories and suppliers wishod to know their position, Cheese factories, added Mr. Massey, were in a better position. It was certain that the Imperial authorities would buy cheese on terms similar to those arranged last year.Th# solo point to b& settled was the pilcai and factories could go ahead «onftd#ntly in the meantime. He might receive a cablegram at any time that would settle the whole question. He had no doubt the producers would again receive SO per cent, advance on cheese delivers! into the stores.
