STCATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

[All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. 11. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.]

tStratford, Sept. 10. The Ladies' Patriotic Mart received very good support on Saturday, the takings being: Tea-rooms £(> 1 .Is. mart £7 12s. Next Saturday Mrs. 1L Ashton will control the mart, and Mrs. .J. \Y. Boon (president) will be assisted by Miss Kobson in the tea-rooms. A-reminder is given of the concert anil dance to be held in the Tcko Hall tomorrow (Tuesday) evening. The entertainment is being organised by the ladies of the district, and the proceeds are to be placed to patriotic funds.

The town hall has been secured for Thursday, 27th inst., by the electrical 3t.aff of the borough, who propose holding a concert and dance, when the proceeds, after paying expenses,, will be handed to the Wounded Soldiers' Fund. Mr. Aitken. an employee, and one of aur amateur performers, is organising the affair, and informed me that he has already secured the services of several well-known performers. Proceedings will be opened by the Mayor.

The weatlier has becomi* rnucli move settled, and from reports to hand dairystock are milking very freely, tn the majority of instances the milk returns bliow an increase in quantity compared with the same period last year. It is expected that there will be a large

and representative attendance of delegates of the various patriotic committees at the meeting to be held in the Municipal Chambers to-morrow (Tuesday). We can all do a little in this direction, bo those who are endeavoring to make every post a winning one are hopeful of setting up strong and enthusiastic committees for the big gift auction day to bo held in January next. This ques-

tion has been before some of the committees for many weeks, and probably to-morrow's meeting will be in the nature of setting up one big central committee to.commence operations. The monthly meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board will be (leld to-morrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

The monthly meeting of delegates of the Taranaki War Relief Association will be held on Wednesday.

There is no time like the present. It is yours, and the wise man is he who makes the most of the opportunity. Just now the opportunity of making a little cash go a long way is presented at Mr. C. E. James' warehouse. Prices are downvto bedrock, whilst quality is of the highest. Ladies, don't neglect this chance of securing best leather handbags, jewellery, wedding presents, etc., now ofl'ering. Call and inspect when next in town.
