BOARD OF TRADE.

VISIT TO TAP.AXAKI. The members of the Board of Trade, W. (!. .McDonald (acting chairman), J. R. Hart, and P. Hally, arrived in New Plymouth by the mail train last night and propose opening an investigation to-day into local meat prices. The secretary of the Hoard, Mr. J. XV. Collins, preceded them, arriving yesterday morning, and during the day held a long conference with tiie master butchers regarding the wholesale and retail prices of meat. Statistics regarding pre-war and present prices and information in regard to the various changes in the local meat market were collected and will be submitted to the full meeting of the board to-day. During their stay in New Plymouth the members of the Board will probably meet the Mayor., the chairman of the Borough Council's Abattoir Committee, and the town clerk, in reference to the position of the local abattoirs account in the event of the Board making an arrangement with the local butchers whereby thei rsupplics may be obtained from the freezing company's output, commandeered by the Imperial authorities. After visiting Waitara to investigate the meat prices there, the Board go to Wanganui, thence to Auckland, and from that-city to Oamaru.
