LOCAL LOANS IN FUTURE.
NEW ZEALAND HAS NO CHOICE. (From Our Parliamentary Reporter). Wellington, Sept. 6. Sir Joseph Ward's statement in the House to-day was the first official announcement that New Zealand will be largely dependent on local loans even when the war is ended. It is well understood that tho Government has to choice in this matter. The Finance -Minister was given plainly to understand in London that in view of the enormous financial demands made upon tho Imperial Government in connection with the war, New Zealand must not count upon being able to raise loans for any purpose in London for some time to come. In all human probability, said Sir Joseph Ward, tho Dominion would have to adopt after tho war a policy of raising its loans locally. He believed *t-iiat "or some time to eonv the Dominion would be hound to raise within its own borders the money tlisit would be recpaired for the internal development of the country. The expenditure of money on future works after the war would bo more. | necessary than ever and the people of Now Zealand had shown they eotdd ; provido it. ,-v
