Mr. Ernest Aitken, editor of the Grey River Argus, has been appointed to succeed the late Mr. John Christie as editor of the Hawera Star. Mr. C. L. Kasper, of Waitara, has received word that one of his sons, Private Allan Kasper, who left with the 18th Reinforcements, receivsd an injury in the trenches about four months ago, and i<> shortly returning to New Zealand. Sir Oswyn Murray, under-sscrotary to the Admiralty, has been appointed permanent secretary to the Admiralty in succession to Sir Graham Greene, who becomes secretary to the Ministry ox Munitions. A pleasing ceremony took place at the annual meeting of the Lepptrton Dairy Company on Friday night when the chairman, Mr. 11. B. Lepper, on behalf of several suppliers presented the manager, Mr. W. Roberts, with a handsome Morris chair as a mark of appreciation of his services in ordering and delivering coal for them. It was stated that at much personal inconvenience he had often left his work and gone to the station to weigh and check the shareholders private coal supplies of which he voluntarily had charge. Mr. Roberts, in responding, said that the co-operation and help of the suppliers had been a factor in the success achieved by the factory. ' I A presentation to Mr. John Terry, deput/ registrar of the Supreme Court and clerk of the Magistrate's Court, at New Plymouth for the past nine years, took place at the police station on Saturday forenoon. The gift consisted of a silver-mounted umbrella, suitably inscribed, and in making the presentation on behalf of the police of the Taranaki district, Sub-Inspector Mcllveney expressed their high appreciation of the courteous assistance th.y had always received from Mr. Terry in connection with the discharge of their official duties.
