WESTERN ATTACK.
FRENCH ARTILLERY DOMINANT. ENEMY LINE SHELLED, SUCCESSFUL AERO WORK. Received Sept. 7, 5.5 p.m. London, Sept. 0. A French communique states: Our batteries in the Champagne are dominating the enemy artillery, which has been particularly violent in the sectors Butte du Mcsnil and Main de Massiones. We vigorously shelled the enemy front linos, preventing any attack. The enemy bombed Dunkirk, wounding civilians. French aeroplanes bombed an aerodrome. railway station and many bivouacs. COUNTER ATTACK REPULSED. CONSIDERABLE ENEMY CASUALTIES. Received Sept. 7, 8.55 p.m, London, Sept. 7. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Heavy rain fell to-day. We slightly aiK-anted our posts south-west of Lens and repulsed a counter-attack, there being considerable enemy casualties. The enemy twice attempted a raid eastward of Armentiercs. The second attempt succeeded in entering our trenches, but the raiders were immediately driven out. We carried out local attacks at strong points northwards of Frezenberg, with seine progress. The enemy heavily shelled Arnientieres. Hostile air raids c;i Tucjdf.y night killed thirty-seven German prisoners and wounded forty-three. HOSPITALS AGAIN BOMBED. Received Sept. 7, 11.25 p.m. Paris, Sopt. 7. A German aeroplane bombed a militarv hospital at Dadelpincourt cn Tuesday night, killing nineteen and wounding twenty-six. It flew over the hospital every twenty minutes and hit the building each time. patroiT^ncounters. London, Sept. 6. Sir Douglas Haig reports;— There have been patrol encounters eastward of Fleur»aux and south-eastward of St, Julien. Enemy aircraft bombed three hospitals on Tuesday night.
