HIGH COMMISSIONER'S MARKET REPORT. The Department of Agriculture, Industries, and Commerce has received the following cablegram, dated September 1, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London. (Note.—Quotations, unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on spot:— Meat.—Following maximum wholesale meat prices have been fixed during September: —Home-killed beef, per lb. 13d; imported hinds, 12'/™d; fores lG'/ 2 d; Home-killed mutton and lamb, 13d; imported, 12:Jd; with the result that heavy supplies of Home-killed mutton and beef at Smithiield market are selling at comparatively low prices. Demand less than -supply. New Zealand mutton. B%d; ewe mutton. 8V»d; Argentine mutton, 10d : ; New Zealand lamb, Hid; Argentine lamb, lid; Argentine chilled beef, hinds lljd, fores Od. it is most probable New Zealand mutton and lamb, lOd and lid, will be increased in accordance with wholesalers' maximum prices quoted above. Butter and Cheese. —Quotations are nominal for both butter and "cheese, awaiting orders from Ministry of Food: meanwhile as a preliminary to further control butter importation is prohibited except under license. Hemp. —Manila hemp, little business doing (mutilated word here) . New Zealand market is affected by the uncertainty regarding Government control. It appears probable prices will be established on the basis of Manila. New Zealand high-point fair, on spot, has been sold at auction at £!I0 per ton; New Zealand common, afloat, £BB. Wheat.—Market dull on account of Government. Offerings are very small; no change in prices. Oats.—Market steady and a fair business doing. No. 2 White Clipped American, ."ills lid, afloat; No 2 Canadian, 04s Od.; Chilian, U4s for spot.
