A very successful social and dance was held in our school last Friday evening by the Ratapiko Patriotic Committee as a farewell to four of our soldier boys, Privates A. Fraser, G. Karalus, Syraonds and Butler, the last named being from X'orfolk road. They all were home on final leave and it must be very gratifying to the committee to know that they got together the largest crowd that has ever been in our school before, there being a great many visitors from all over the district, especially from Tariki. The school ground was almost full of jmottr cars, etc., and about 47 couple? occupied the floor, dancing being kept going until 2.30 a.m. The floor'of the school was in tip top order, and a very dainty supper was supplied by the ladies of the committee. Excellent music, piano and violin, was supplied by the two Misses Williams and Mrs. Hair. Tho two first mentioned ladies must he congratulated upon playing for most oE our dances this season, considering they have to come all the way from Waitui. Mr. A. Morrison introduced the four soldiers, who were each handed a present, after which they suitably replied, and the people all gave rousing cheers and s*ng "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." Songs wero given at intervals by wellknown performers from Tariki and Ratapiko Mr. A. Morrison acted as M.C. in his well-known capable manner. OKATO. (From a Correspondent.) At the Hempton Hall' last Friday night, the concert given by Mr. K. B. JSarnetl's pupils proved a great success, jtho net proceeds being about £l2. ■Special interest attached to the entertainment on account of it being Mr. Bar■liett's last public performance before leaving for camp. Thanks to Mrs. Fox, •tho stage was very tastefully decorated. All the items were well received, Mr. Jenkin receiving a double encore for his items. Mr. Barnett has played round the district for three years, and during that time he has given three concerts at Okato, one at Oakura, one at Tatarc.iand one at Warea. After the concert, each of the pupils handed supper round in a nicely decorated basket. Mr., Hunter, on behalf of the Patriotic 'Committee, thanked Mr. Barnett for the splendid concert and called for three teheers, Mr. Barnett being carried shoulder high round the hall. A special word "of praise is due to Mrs. W. Corbett for her help towards the supper room. Mr. Willie Gray has made an offer to the Patriotic Committee of all the flax on his property at Oxford Road, tfhich oiler the committee ghfdly accepted. A bee is being formed to go on Thursday and cut same, and the committee hope to receive about £2 per ton for it. Given a fine day tho workers should be able to net about £2O for their labor. I notice that the New Plymouth Male Choir intend giving a performance at Warea at a future date. Okato would gladly welcome Messrs McLeod and McDonald's little band, and could guarantee them a good house. Mr. Farmer has started to get busy again, 'judging by the number of milk carts attending the factory daily. HORWOKTH. (From a Correspondent).
