A SERIOUS CHARGE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland. Last Night. A Maori, named Jack Pihana. pleaded not guilty and was committed for trial on a charge of killing .James White Hooker, on August 1 : 1, and with causing actual bodily harm by an act of neglijr ence to Hooker. The evidence showed that Pihana, who allegedly had committed a nuisance in the street, while being pursued by a constable ran on the lootpath, colliding with Hooker. The latter complained of pains in the abdomen and legs, and iwas conveyed to the hospital, where he died eighteen hours later. Meilical evidence was to the effect that death was due to the rupture of /\, cyst on the kidney and haemorrhage, and that probably a little force from the collision would cause the, rupture.
