THE MART.
DOCTORS*, DENTISTS' AXD CHEMISTS' DAY. The doctors, dentists and chemists of New Plymouth, very materially assisted by their lsuly friends, had charge of the Mart on Saturday, and so energetically did they work that the financial results were eminently satisfactory. Donations amounting to £2(l began the day's operations, others were received at later stages, and these with the sales (£2O for cakes alone), competitions, etc., brought the total receipts up to the handsome sum of £lls. The poods offered were of infinite variety, and so numerous that the mart premises were stocked to overflowing, but the brisk business done throughout the day rapidly effected a clearance, and practically everything was disposed of. In addition to the produce and home-made comestibles there was .an abundance of beautiful flowers, the old meat mart being set apart for them, and the Mayoress having tlie management of this particularly at : tractive section. Mrs. Walker had charge of the shop wherein most of the other articles were sold, and. with her assistants, was kept busy all day long. The orincipal competitions resulted as follows: Peas in bottle (prize, a nightdress presented by Mrs. McCleland). —Mrs, Walker (actual number, 450; guess, 457). Doll's name (Jack). —Mr. Paton and Miss Mona Corkill tied, and in the draw off Miss Corkill proved the winner. The ham was won by Mr. Manson, and can be obtained at Teed's Pharmacy. The doctors, dentists, and chemists desire to thank their many kind friends f or helping to make the day so great a success.
