THE AMUSEMENT TAX.
- PARTICULARS OF RATES. By Wire.—.Special Correspondent. Wellington, Last Night. In the Finance Bill brought down tonight the rates of amusement tax are set out as follows:—(Payment for admission (exclusive of amount of tax) exceeding Od 'but not exceeding 2s Gd, tax payablo Id; exceeding 2s 6d but not exceeding ss, tax payable 2d; exceeding 5s but not exceeding 7s Od, tax payable 3d; exceeding 7s Gd but not exceeding 12s Od, tax payable Gd; exceeding 12s (id, one shilling for the first 12s Gd, and one shilling for every 10s or part of 10s over 12s Od. Entertainment includes any exhibition, performance, amusement, game, or sport to which persons are admitted for payment. The tax will come into force on and after November 1 next. No tax is payable in respect of amusements in aid of philanthropic or charitable objects, or which are wholly educational in character and exclusively for the benefit of any school, etc.
