EDUCATING RETURNED SOLDIERS.
EDUCATION BOARD'S FACILITIES. In his report to the Taranaki Education Board, .Mr. A. Gray, Director of Technical Education for Taranaki, ed:At last there eeems to be some probability of the returned soldiers taking advantage of our offer of free technical education. Two returned men are starting engineering classes at New Plymouth when the new term starts on the 4th Septemberf, and will take a complete course. They wish to qualify as motor drivers, and aro the stump of men 'we want. At Hawera a, soldier has for some time been taking the commercial class, and is making excellent progress. Notwithstanding the loss of some of the fingers of tho right hand he is rapidly 'mastering shorthand and typing, and ,with the usual quickness of the soldier is getting over tho difficulty of holding the pen. As it was thought at one time a rather doubtful experiment to introduce grown men into day classes. I wish to say that if they are all the type of this man we can do .vith two or three hundred relumed soldiers, as this young man's inlluencc on the school is all for the school's good. I have been notified of two other soldiers at Hawera who wish to take up tuition after the holidays.
