Lieutenant R, L. Okey is spending a few days' leave in New Plymouth. Word has been received that Captain E. J. Bramuiall, of Hawera, is reported from France as sick and in hospital. Mrs. Haigh has received advice that her son, Private Les. Haigh, is being Invalided home. Private Haigh left with the Bth Reinforcements. The well-known theatrical manager, Mr \V. A. Law, arrives in town to-day, in charge of JS, J, Carroll's attraction, "Where are my Children?" J On Monday evening the Eltham Fire Brigade faxewelled Fireman Private Frank O'Keefe, who was presented with an enlarged photograph of the brigade. Tho death occurred at Onehunga last week of Mr. William M'Keever, who was in business as an auctioneer in New Plymouth some 25 or 30 years ago. Cable advico states that 'Privdte T. C. Goiner, of the Ambulance Corps, who has been some time in France, has been ill, and is now in hospital in France. .At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Education Board a letter was received from Mr. H. Q. Sergei, tendering his resignation as agricultural instructor. It was decided to hold over tjiisideration.of the matter for a month. News ha 3 been received that Bombardier J. C. Sumner, who has been* severely wounded by shrapnel in the left knee, is a patient at the Walton-on-Thames Hospital. Resignations of tho following teachers were accepted by the Taranaki Education Bpard at its meeting yesterday:— Misses E. Rountree and R. E, Scott, mistresses at Kiure and Witianga; Mrs, M. Norman, sowing mistress, Lower Mangorei; Messrs R, C. Lightbourne and A. J. Heron, assistants at Stratford. Mrs. Graham (Awatuna) received newo on Thursday, that her son, Corporal Gordon Graham, had. bean killed in action in France. This i» the second of her sons who has laid down his life for hie country. Private W. Mr. W. S- Wright, of Christfihurch, hasj been appointed assistant engineering in- 1 etructor at the Technical College, New Plymouth. Mr. Wright','who is aged 31 and classed 02, has' had constructional experience at Hora Hora hydro-electrio power plant, and at the' Jake Coleridgcf. hydro-eletric power plant, and for sonioi time was milking drawings, for some: of; the apparatus at the sub-station at Addington. He' also had to supervise tho laying of two mile 9 of underground 11,* OCHJ-volt cable from Addington to the city sub-station. Besides this, he has ueen in charge of the electric power station at Tauronga. He had recently taken the position of demonstrator at Canterbury College, during the absence of the demonstrator on military service. He had passed in degree subjects, in advanced electrical engineering, electrical drawing, design, cjc., at Canterbury College.
