As the result of ''Baby Day'' in Stratford to-morrow, under the auspices of t!x local brunch of the Plimket Society, it is expected that a substantial sum will be collected for the purpose of subsidising a I'lunket nurse for the district. The mart in Mr. Dixon's shop, and tearooms in the premises of the Ladies' Patriotic Committee, in Broadway, will be run by several ladies. Donations of j coin and kind will be thankfully received at the mart in time for operations. The results of the various competitions will be announced at a euchre party to be held in the patriotic premises in the evening. Mr. M. P. Anderson has been gazetted Deputy-Kegistrar of Marriages, Birtiis and Deaths, for the district of Whangamomona. The drawing of the art unions conducted by the Taranaki .Scottish Society in connection with Scottish Saturday, took place on Saturday evening, under the supervision of Messrs F. J. and W. McDonald and Police Sergeant Dale. Tho results were announced as follows: Bantams (No. of tickets, 1 f»40), SergeantMajor Mahonev; bag of flour (110), Mrs. A. F. Grant; lady's skirt (4721, Mrs. Dobson; watch (311), Mr. Fulton; camore. (37-1), Mrs. Enwright; horse (403), Mrs. •I. McDonald. The proceeds of the various efforts have now been calculated as follows:—Art unions, £52 9s; mart, £Ol as; tea rooms £29 Ss 8d; dancing. £sl 13s; concert, £O4 18s Cd; a grant: total of £2)9 14s 2d, from which expenses have to be deducted. Private Joseph Win Kee, writing from V 'ice under date of June 28, to Mr. J. I). Murray, Stratford, states (inter aliai that he had a most unique experience while in the firing line at the big battle of , as the result of a high explosive shell bursting among their party of 9, of whom six were killed outright, two badly wounded, while he was cent high in the air. finally coming down wallop at the bottom of the trench, and only getting a few scratches, although very badly shaken. He then took ill two days later, and was sent to hospital, where he was compelled to remain for a few weeks, but is now at the base awaiting further orders for the front. He met ''Mick" Childs to-day, the latter having just come over, and is looking and feeling well. Private Win Kee states that the activities are very evtensivc on the British and French fronts.
