FURTHER PROGRESS MADE. OVER 10,000 PRISONERS TAKEN. (London, Aug. 23. ■ A wireless Italian message says: We made progress northward and southward on tho Julian front. Our troops, after repulsing counter-attacks, carried positions south-eastward of Dossofaiti. We took prisoner 10,000 men and 350 oliieers up till yesterday, j Aeroplanes and airships dropped 12 tons of bombs on the enemy. ENEMY ABANDONS FIRST LINE ENEMY REINFORCEMENTS FROM EAST. Rome. Aug. 23. The Italian offensive has forced the ■ Austnaiis to obtain reinforcements from the eastern front. The T2iti Division are mainly recent arrivals from Galicia. After nine counter-attacks had 'been repulsed near Korite the Italians took the offensive, capturing an entire regiment. Another brigade assaulted Hills "11 and 24* and took thousands of prisoners, The following morning the brigade proceeded to assault the strong lines befoie Selo, despite a determined resistance. Jhe enemy ha# abandoned the entire nrst line irom the plateau to the- sea on a fiont of 60 kilometres. Prisoners are still coining in. ITALIAN LINE ADVANCING. HERMADA COMPLETELY INVESTED. INCREDIBLY FEROCIOUS FIGHTING. Received Aug. 25, 1 a.m. Rome, Aug. 24. several Austrian divisions 011 the Carso were so badly shattered that they nave been withdrawn from the firing line. fa The fighting around Hermada was marked with incredible ferocity. The Austrian reserve division on the third j day of the struggle was thrown in in an. effort to break the Italian iron ring. Airmen signalled their presence. Suddenly four hundred Italian guns opened a terrific and accurate fire, scattering the division like chaff. An Au9tiicou division in the fe'-lo sector, wearing Ital-ari uniforms, got near the Italians with a hundred machineguns, but tile trick was discovered and all were annihilated. British and Italia,n naval guns were largely instrumental in piercing the defence of the Carso. Northward the Italian front is being methodically advanced along the entire line. II iSieccolo state" that Hermada is completely invested by land and sea, and undergoing the most intense attacks.
