HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. / Wellington Aug. 20, The High Commissioner's market report, dated London, August 18th, states that (quotations unless otherwise specified, are average market prices on the spot) quotations are as follows: The meat market continues firm for ■all descriptions of frozen meat. Homekilled mutton and beef in good supply are selling at comparatively low prices. New Zealand mutton 8 7-Sd"; ewe mutton Argentine mutton MM; N.Z. lamb (small supply) 10d; Argentine lamb lid; N.Z. beef—No supplies available, with the exception of N.Z. boneless beef, lOd; Argentine beef, quotations nominal; hinds, 14d; fores 10% d.
Butter and cheese.—Ma.vimum prices are unchanged for both butter and cheese. There are small supplies of butter, and the market is firm. Danish, no quotations; N.Z., no supplies available, no quotations; Irish creamery, heavy buying by the Home and Continental trade'; salted, 200s; unsalted, 2095. Argentine, no supplies available and no quotations. The cheese market is firm. English Cheddar 1325. Hemp.—The Manila market continues firm. For New Zealand, quotations are irregular and business is restricted, especially for forward shipment, owing to the possibility of Government controlling prices. Quotations: Nominal N. Z. good fair spot, £93 per ton; August to October shipment, £92; N.Z. fair spot, £9l; August to October shipment, £9O.
Wheat. —Live business is doing, the offerings from all sources being small. Prices are unchanged. The oats market is quiet but steady. Canadian 03s 3d; American 02s 4d.
