TARANAKI LAND BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the Land Board was held yesterday. Present: Mr. G. H. Bullard .(Commissioner), in the chair; Messrs J. Heslop, C. J,. Ryan, J. YV. 11. Martin, and N. K.. Cleland. APPLICATIONS FOR LAND. Sections 48 and 49, Huiakama Suburban, 0 acres; lease to George Cornish. —Approved as from Ist January, 1918, at a yearly rental of £O, subject to usual conditions. Section 33, block XV, Ngatimaru S.D., Ba. 3r. 2p.; lease to Patrick and John O'Connor.—Approved as from October 1, 1917, at a yearly rental of £4 10s, subject to usual oenditions. Part section 132, Huirangi district, 1 acre, Education Reserve; lease to J. W. Henwood, junr.—Left in hands of Commissioner, with a view to granting a yearly tenancy. THE FREEHOLD. Section 10, block XI,, Pouatu, 318 acres; John Ostler.—Approved. DEFAULTERS. Section 22, block I, Tangitu; nonpayment of rent.—Adjourned. Section 1, block XIII, Mimi; non-resi-dence.—Exemption from personal residence granted during the pleasure of the Board. TRANSFERS AND SUB-LEASES. The application of A. H. Edwards (mortgagee of L. H. Raynor) to transfer section 2, block XVI, Opaku, to A. H. Edwards, was left in the hands of the Commissioner.
Section 12, block I. Aria; Wm. Molohe to F. C. Davidson.—Resolved to adhere to previous resolution refusing the application. MISCELLANEOUS. It was resolved to call a special meeting nf the Board for Wednesday, Sep' tembcr 5, 1917, at 0.30 a.m., to examine applicants and deal with the applications received for the Parkes Settlement, opened for discharged soldiers, also to deal with any ordinary business of an urgent nature that may require consideration.
With regard to the report of Mr. E. A. Meredith, Crown Lands ranger, on values of areas taker, for tho Manaia branch railway out of Education Reserves leased and under the Board's administration, it was resolved that a claim representing the value of the land (with Crown improvements,) taken for railway purposes, be lodged with the Minister of Public Works ny the Commissioner of Crown Lands on behalf of the Land Board;
Section G, Block VIII, Oniona, 1236 aere3, was forfeited, rent to be paid up to date, the land to be re-opened weighted with valuation for improvements in favor of the lessee.
Donald McLean, E. J. Leonard, and J. W. King, were each granted 12 months exemption from personal residence, owing to having re-enlisted for active service.
Mr. H. F. Russell was appointed arbitrator for assessing rents on renewals of several leases of Education and West Coast Reserves.
The question of re-offering the unsold _fections in the town of Tahora was left tn the hands of the Commissioner to prepare schedule and fix upset prices for auction.
_ Messrs Cole and Woottev, bidders of Native lease section 2, block VT Tangitu, were granted a yearl/ tenancy of about 4 acres., being north-east corner of Crown land section S, block" VI, Tangitu, in order to give them a practicable fencing line. Tho Board in committee dealt with six applications from selectors requiring postponement of collection of rent for varying periods, and made recommendation to the Minister according to the circumstances of each case, the postponement to bear a charge of 4-per cent per annum for interest. Ten applications from selectors (or their agents) absent on active service, for rent 'remission, were dealt with, and the Board's recommendation in each instance will be forwarded for the consideration of the Minister, in terms of Section 23 of the Land Act, 1915.
