RAHOTU. (FjTom our Own Correspondent.) In my last notes it was stated that Mrs. Gunn had given the gentleman's prii'.e (7s Gd) at the euchre party: it should have been Mr ,W. R. Wright. Mrs. J. Stevenson, junr., gave a 251b bag of tlour, which was won by Miss Maggie Morrow, who presented it again for the gentlemen's prize on Friday, 17th. Lovely button holes of spring flowers from Pomona gardens were sold by Miss White, and Miss Kennin in the afternoon and also in the evening, and realised a nice amount for Christmas gifts for the soldiers.

A dance was held on the 10th, and was well attended.

A meeting was lield last Thursday evening, when it was decided to hold a grand patriotic ball on the -2-lth. Mrs. O'Xeill and lliss H. Wright are canvassing the district for contributions of dcoking, etc., for the balL LEPPERTON". Although the youngest contestant, wo venture to assert that Baby Crowe won't b» far beUind when tho finals go up. Recently the pupils of the local school Wrote essays on tiie experiments which they carried out in flip school garden to demonstrate the suitability of nitiuto of soda as a top-dressing for mangolds. The assays were posted to Sydney, and prizes ■were awarded to Miss May Wallace and Master Claude Hellier. The prizes were | beautifully bound volumes of .Shake- ; speare, and, in a covering letter to the : "headmaster of tho school, Mr. Stephen, the director of the nitrate of soda propaganda, .said ho was so pleased with the essays that he was forwarding the whole of them to bis principals in London.
