Sergeant C. D. McAllurn, who has boon on filial leave, left New Plymouth for Featherston camp by the mail traiu this morning. Dr, A. W. T. O'Sullivan, who recently gained the degrees of M.B. and Ch.B. at the Med teat School of Otago University, is at present on a short holiday visit to Kaponga, the home of his birth. Ho is tlia eldest son of the lato Gcoffroy O'Sullivan, who was ono of tho earliest settlors in the district. Whan a medical student in his third year lie enlisted with the Main Body of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, and took part in the famous lauding at Gallipoli, and served in tho N.Z.M.C. for four months as stretcher-bearer, till he was recalled to complete his medical studies, He secured second plasa at th® recont final medical and surgical examinations, and the Otago Daily Times of August IS states that the Hospital Committee will rocommend Dr. O'Sullivan's appointment to the position of house surgeon at the Dimedin Public Hospital.—Star. Mr. J. T. George, whose death occurred on Thursday,- was a very old identity, being but twelve months of age at the time his parents arrived at New Plymouth in 1841' (says, the Hawera ~Star). At 13 years of ago ho was apprenticed to the printing trade, serving his time on the Taranaki Herald, under the proprietorship of his brother-in-law, Mr. G. W. 'Mr. George was for many years overseer in the jobbing department of the Star; indeed, he was the first printer to establish himself in HaAvera, having started a small printing oftiee of his own prior to any paper being published.
