She had been convicted of espionage. The trial of Mata Hari caused a sensation. She was arrested some month* jijgo on a charge of espionage in comingticn with the IDIG spring offensive. Inquiries showed that the mystical serpentine Hinuu ritual dancer, who attracted fashionable Parisians to the Musee Grimet and leading theatres, was one of Germany's most skilful spies. She was cleverly defended, but the court-martial was unanimous in its decision.
