The Daily News. THURSDAY, AUGUST 16. THE WAR LOAN.
The Knance-Minister has lost no time iu-. placing the loan proposals befflte the public, and he is certainly justified in his confidence that they will respond liberally. Of tho necessity for this loaii I there can be no question, nor should there be two opinions as to the propriety l.f it being raised in the Dominion. Tho. .public have given eloquent testimony of their patriotism in large subscriptions 3for objects connected with the war. Tlic the Dominion is enjoying is -of itself a sufficient justification for bearing a fair share of the financial bur. den of the war, but it is also a question of loyalty and honor that every part of the Empire shall do its utmost with men and money to win the war. There ar<s many who can assist in no other way than by contributing to this loan, while
others, can help in that-and other ways. The people of New Zealand may be re lied upon to do tlieir duty, and it is, without doubt, the duty of every member of the community to contribute ac-. cording to his or her means to this war loan, of which they should take a pride in securing a success that will not only "be of inestimable service in attaininc victory, but will also show our enemies ] that no matter how long the struggle may last the people of the British Empire will spare no effort in support of ' the cause for -Which they are prepared to offer every sacrifice that is needed. We •may, therefore, expect immediate and liberal subscriptions to the loan from all classes of" the community. We hope I to examine its details in a further issut.
