SALE OF RAFFIA WORK. On Tuesday afternoon a sale of raffia and ume haskctwaiv was held bv Mrs. K. C. Hughe, at her residence in Vivian Street, and was very successful, resulting in £-)<) being available for the Red Cro-s funds. Tin- dining-room had boon tastefully decorated with beautiful spring llowcr's and pretty baskets of various shapes, much were exceedingly attractive in color and dc.,i;jii and excited great admiration. Tlic.se. found a verv ready sale, many orders for replicas being also taken, the attendance of buyers beinir very large. Afternoon tea was served in the drawing room, which v.a, also tastefully decora lei!, whilst on the verandah was a pretty llower stall, the work of Misses vVhitcisial.c and 0. Turton, who kepi charge of it during the afternoon, the kiteuiooii tea being presided over by -Mr-. LSlackliy and AJi- s Wade, who were assisted by the .Misses Leatham (2), L. C'uUield, and \Y". Crooke. Guc-sing eonipetitions run bv Mrs. MoClelaud. Mrs. L'rooke, Miss W. Ciooke, and .Miss k. Humphries materially helped the funds, the. prizes being won by Miss Ilcmptou, .Mrs. Rov, Mrs Cruiekshank, and Miss K. Leathuin. and during the afternoon Mi-. Leatham gave musical items and .Mrs. Hughes recited -The Mr Tree" (by K. V. |. lu asi, greatly adding to the pleasure of those present. Tiio raliia baskets were mostly the work ol Mrs. Jiughes, whilst the cane baskets and trays were mainly the work of Mrs. Crookc, all being very elegant and showing the handiwork of experts. ilr. E.
