CASEIN v. PIGS.
To the Editor. Sir, —In reply to Mr. Bakawell'g letter of Oth mat., during the discuasion oa casein at the annual meeting of the Moa Dairy Company I made a statement that casein at '2id per lb from one thousand pounds of milk at a 3.9 test will give the supplier a return of twelve pounds, ( £l2) for thirty days' milk, which ia neither vague nor irrelevant, but quite correct, for ,it ia woll within the subject discussed, "Casein v. Pigs." Ho then, as it is usual for him to do, rambles from the subject under discussion and touches on the Hun, Homo Rule and Lloyd Gporge, "which may satisfy his own wounded feelings for the five minutes limit and gag, as he calls it, which the meeting by a large majority pronounced against him. He then touches on whtU is returned to him for calves and pigs, which, to look at his statement in the most reasonable way, is vague and unreliable, for taking from November 1 to the end of March he gives no details of the quantity of skim milk received nor the quantity of meal, sharps, or grain, with its cost, which is most essential for pig fattening, and which would undoubtedly reduce his pig cheque considerably. I now come to his statement re the uimoniinated directors, which I think, your readers will agree with uie that Mr. Bakewell would weH employ a portion of his time most judiciously in having the company's articles of association explained to him that he may not in future expose himself to public ridicule.—l am, etc.. M. McMAHON.
