Loudon, Aug. 11. Sir Douglas Kaig reports: This morning's attack eastward of Ypres was 011 a front of two miles, southward of Vpres-Roulers railway. On lite right, l.cavv lighting occurred for the high ground astride of the Ypres-Menin road, ami some progress was made. Fighting continues on the centre amd on the left. Overcoming the resistance, wc gained our whole objectives and Westhoek ridge is completely ours. We established ourselves at Gleugorse wood and inflicted herivy casualties There is great aerial activity. Our riile and artillery fire beat back flix assaults for the possession of important ground captured eastward of Vpr.es. After lierce fighting all the positions were maintained. We gained ground in the neighborhood of the YpresMenit! road and raided trenches southward of Armentieres.

A French communique states: North of St. Quentin thers has been sustained reciprocal artillerying in the region of Fayet. In the afternoon we stopped two attacks between Menu en diet mill aiid Copy farm. The artillery duel eontinned violently 011 the Pantheon-Epinc do Chevrignv front. Prisoners state that the morning's attack was prepared with the greatest care, with the object of capturing the trendies that we, carried on July 30. Alter artillery preparation, the enemy attacked the trenches east of Maison de Champagne. Our fire has broken all the assaults. In the centre, where the assailants gained u footing, there was a terrific struggle, which ended in our favor, and the whole line was restored on both batiks of the Meuse. There 'have been violent artillery actions in the region of Kill 304, in the Morthomme-Bczonvaux sector.
CAPTURED ELEMENTS REGAINED.
A further French communique states: North of S;t. Quentin itve regained the greater portion of the elements in which the enemy obtained a footing on August 10th. In the Champagne, after artillerying preparation, the enemy delivered simultaneous attacks east and west of Mont Oornillet, but our fire stopped dead the assaulting waves, with heavy losses North of Mont Oornillet the enemy penetrated our advanced line, but a counteroffensive recaptured the ground, with the exception of fifty metres.

A French communique states: We continued to progress in Belgium, aid occupied at night several farms east 'of Bixsehoote and west of Langemarck. A German attack on a front of a kilometre in the Fayet region, north of St. Queii tin, was broken by our fire. Wo repulsed the enemy with loss, except in the centre, where enemy fractions obtained a footing in a small area of our advanced elements. There was a recrudescence of the bombardment at night in the whole of the region south of Allcmont 'Plain and north of the Aiane. The enemy at dawn violently attacked from the Pantheoa farm to the Chevrigny ridge. Three battalions, supported by storm troops, attempted to assault our lines at various times, but' our accurate fire stopped tlie assailants on most of the front, indicting tin; heaviest losses. In the enemy elements, -where we penetrated trenches, we killed or prisonered mar.v, after hand-to-hand fighting wherein our men showed admirable dash. We held all the positions. Otihcr German attempts, notably south of Ailles and south-east of the Chevruz region from Auqu.-iis towards Avocourt, north-west of Flirey. also failed under lire with appreciable losses.

EXTENSIVE BOMBERS OPERATIONS?.
Auf. and N.Z Cable Assoc. and Beuter. Received Aug. 11, 5.5 p.m. London, Aug. 10. The Admiralty reports that naval airmen dropped several tons of bombs on the GM&telles aerodrome, the Zuidwege railway sidings, and Tiiourout railway junction on Thursday night. Dense clouds of smoke were caused at 7/iiidwege. The machines also attacked by gunfire the raihra.y junction of Tiiourout. Wo bombed the aerodrome at Sparajipellioek oi Friday. All returned safely.
