THE CHLOROFORM CASE. By Telegraph—Press Association ChrisMiurch, Aug. 10. At the Supreme Court, William Kinnaird and Robert Erwin 'Meachlem were charged on various counts that on July 5, at Chrislchureh, with intent to commit a crime, they caused Andrew Rollo Guild and Enid Guild to be affected by chloroform. The Crown Prosecutor said accused had taken a room at the Clarendon Hotel under false names, going out late a-t night in a taxi and returning early in the morning. The lluilds slept in a room opposite accused's. They were awakened early in the morning and found on their pillow a handkerchief soaked with chloroform. Accused, when arrested, were founjj in jxissession of certain papers thai Qufjjd had left in his clothes overnight 4. The prosecutor read sigHß4<sfifcfjnents by accused that they merely #oa£ed the handkerchief in chloroform and had thrown it into a room to test it. Kinnaird, on his arrest, said: "I suppose we will get seven years for this." The case is proceeding.
