Major Wylie, late of New Plymouth, nov,' in charge of one of the British basa hospitals, -where he has been doing splendid work, has been created a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George.
'The death is announced of Mrs. Sophia Lower, an old and respected settler of Karori, Wellington, in her ninety-fifth year. Born at Merton, in Surrey, aha arrived at Wellington with her husband and family in tho ship Oliver Lang im 1850, and had lived in Karori ever sine*. Mr. Harry Hall, director of the Lowgarth factory, will be leaving far tho training camp. At the annual meeting, the chairman wished Mr. Hall every success in his new duties, and trusted he would return safe and sound in due course. The sentiment was endorsed by all present. Mr. TV. Gray, Lowgarth, has' recaireH information that hU wu, Privata <W, Gray, of the 18th Reinforcement*, ha* been wounded whilst fightiug in Fran** on July 27. A second son, Private A. Gray, 'of the 12th Reinforcements, ha* so far come through the big push.Baft and sound!
